Here's what Sharkeyflor said about "The Samurai and the Prisoner" :

a most beautiful exercise or dance in staging and dialogue. the narrative unraveling piece by piece, scene by scene, season by season in such a rhythmic and measured pace is enough to make me melt alone, but then you add in the fact that it all feels so fresh, so new—at least for kurosawa. just about everything is revealed to us, but none of it feels overly didactic, or like we’re being spoken at. kiyoshi kurosawa, even while exploring new terrains this deep into his career, is still outclassing all his “peers” and showing us that real films can still be made a quarter into the 21st century. thank you KK🙏🏾
